During the 1980’s, there was a major growth in awareness of the needs and concerns of Colorado’s growing senior population. The seniors needed services. They needed community support. As the elder population grew, their needs also grew. Organizations such as: The Senior Lobby, Colorado Gerontological Society, The Association of Senior Citizens, Seniors Resource Center, The Senior Hub, just to mention a few, were established. In the 1980’s, we also saw the cities and towns of Colorado open their doors to Senior Centers to help enhance the well-being of their communities’ older population.

Prime Time for Seniors newspaperThere was another group of caring professionals that pitched into the senior arena... the folks in the publishing industry. They realized that the 50-Plus population needed information, thus we saw the curtain rising on several senior publications that were circulated throughout the Denver Metro area. The Senior Edition, The Beacon Review, The Blue Book, The Senior Focus, The Senior Voice and The Prime Time for Seniors began publishing information that focused on the needs, concerns and interests of Colorado’s older population.

In 1986 Ray Pollom, the founder of The Prime Time for Seniors Newspaper, felt that there was a desperate need to share information with the seniors in Adams County. With passion, concern, determination and the help of his wife, Joyce, Ray began a monthly tradition that has spanned 25 years.

In 2002, I purchased the newspaper. As Ray felt the need to share information, my passion and beliefs were slightly different. I felt that editorial content must focus on the interests and concerns of five unique groups: Adult Children of Aging Parents, The Baby Boomers, Retirees, Elderly Folks 80-Plus, and the People Who Work in the Aging Industry. Needless to say, a great variety of information must be shared. At The Prime Time, we strive to provide editorial content that meets our readers’ interests and concerns. Since 2002, we have also expanded our circulation to 52,000 (104,000 readers) which is distributed in the12 counties in and around the Denver Metro area.

The newspaper industry has been a strange beast over the years. We have seen numerous publications come and go, especially in the 50-Plus market. We are very proud to say, The Prime Time continues to be a welcomed, monthly tradition to an enthusiastic 50-Plus Community.

I sincerely thank our advertisers for making this publication happen every month. To our readers … You are SUPER. You support our advertisers. You give us loads of feed back. You tell us what we are doing right. You tell us what we are doing, not so right. Most important, you faithfully read The Prime Time every month. I thank you!

Regards, Patti Wampach – Publisher/Editor
